After Tuesday's jogging session I decided that I needed to push myself more and I set a goal to run 3 miles in less than 30 minutes for my Thursday run. Well today was "that Thursday" and after working all day it was 8pm and I really did NOT want to go running on the treadmill.....but I thought of this blog and all of my friends and family that know I am training for this half marathon and I laced up my tennis shoes. Tonight, I pushed myself and ran 3 miles in 29 minutes and 48 seconds! Yay...first goal accomplished! Now onto setting my goal for the Half Marathon.
In February 2008, I ran my first half marathon, the Tybee Half Marathon, in 2:27:39 with a pace of 11:16 minutes per mile! I was SO PROUD of myself! But that was almost 3 years ago and I have the itch again to complete another one! During that race on mile 9 I rolled my ankle, had to get it wrapped, and was advised to stop. Needless to say, after 9 miles of kicking butt I was not going to just stop.....so at the end of 13.1 miles I was in PAIN. So hopefully for this upcoming race, things will go smoothly.
I am trying to set a pace goal for this upcoming race.....I mean the last race I rolled my ankle and got it wrapped (the wrapping took around 5 minutes) and I was hurting the last 4 miles....so I am thinking I can push myself to keep a pace of less than 10:30 per mile. Thus 10:30 X 13.1 miles ~~ 2 hours and 18 minutes to finish the race....
Then I think to myself, wouldn't it be great if I could finish the race in less than 2 hours .....even though the Nashville, TN course will have more hills vs. the Tybee Island, GA race....so is this achievable? I mean 120 minutes/13.1 miles = a pace of ~9.16 minutes per mile...pretty darn fast! Who thinks Chris and I can do that pace for 13.1 miles!?!?!
Anyway, enough blabbing about goal setting for the half marathon and off to bed to rest my tired legs! ;) Yay for following through and achieving goals- 3 miles in less than 30 minutes! YAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Here is a picture from my last half marathon....got to love how excited I was! I cannot wait to have a picture of myself and my husband (ahh...I just love saying that word) ready to run our first race together! yay!
